Sturgeons are freshwater fish, and can be a great addition to your fish tank. They look like pre-historic creatures. are activethey swimmers, peaceful, hardy and ready to accept all kind of food. They can withstand cold water temperature, and are in many waters thruout the country. They require a medium to hard alkiline water.
THEY ARE PROTECTED SPECIES IN MUCH OF THE US, SO IF YOU PURCHASE THEM TO KEEP IN YOUR TANK YOU BETTER BUY FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER WHO TANK BREEDS THEM, AND KEEP YOUR RECEIPT HANDY JUST IN CASE MR CONSERVATION OFFICER COMES KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR. Before they became a protected species here in Indiana my grandfather and dad woud set out trotlines in sandy bottom areas of the the local river trying to catch them. They are great eating, because they have NO internal boanes, only a shell that is easily removed with a filet knife after cutting the fish into 3-4" sections with a sharp hatchet.

They are a cold water fish and require water in the mid 60's and lower to live long term, not impossible to keep but not the best choice of sturgeon for the home aquarium.
I've caught them on hook and line, great eating!
