I am taking a college course called the psychology of religion. It's VERY interesting, but unfortunately I have been asked to do this:

Research Paper: 100 points You will write a research paper that deals with some aspect of religion. This can be almost anything except a proselytizing document that encourages the reader to “see the light” and convert to the writer’s point of view. I would like it to be a paper that leads the writer to a greater understanding of their own, or one of the other major world religions. It can be done as a very serious study of a particular religion or aspect of a religion or history of the development of a religion, or it can be done is a somewhat lighter vein. The catch is that you are to prepare for the second class meeting a proposal for what it is that you would like to write about (even allowing for the small chance that some of you might not like to write at all.

I must admit that I am really, really rusty on the whole research paper thing. I don't think I've written one in about three years. The topic I chose to write on is Childfree Christians. I was wondering if the people who are a lot smarter than me could critique my thesis statement. I can think of no other place to get a quick answer from intelligent people I respect a lot. :)

I suppose I should add the obligatory "no flaming" disclaimer since it has a religious theme. So, be nice. No bickering! I'm not here to put anyone's beliefs down. I'm taking this class to gain a greater understanding of world religions. Without further adieu, here is my craptastic thesis statement.

In the past 100 years, social, economic and environmental changes have caused Christian women to call into question previously held ideals regarding motherhood and reproduction, leading many to the belief that a woman seeking to serve God has several other, equally valid options available to her.

My friends won't say anything bad about it and while that's great, it doesn't help me much. I need suggestions for improvement!

Thank you :headbang2

Having known Christian women of different generations, I see the validity of your thesis. Previous generations believed that the womens role was to stay home and raise as many children as possible. Current generations have seen that this is no longer a valid option. At least this has been my observations.

I'm glad it's at least valid! haha

I tried to pick something near and dear to my heart. I'm not Christian but I am Childfree and I want to learn more about Christianity.

A fish forum would not be the ideal place to do a RESEARCH paper, since there is technically no research being done.

Being a college student myself, I'd suggest hitting the library, and credible online publications which would provide the sources and references.

Oh I have, I'm just seeking non biased opinions

I think your thesis statement is fine...Only thing I would do, is figure out a way to make it two or three sentences, as apposed to one big one. Indent, you paragraph, and you will be fine :)

I've been looking into this info with her because I find it really interesting. I can't find anything credible online or at the library. Can you point me in the right direction? Since it seems you're researching similar topics I'm looking forward to your credible and valuable input. Thanks Ming!!

hey, you like me. you're biased! :banhim: :)

The only trouble is that you have to stereotype that belief that the women from all pervious generations that were good God fearing women followed that role. I would have to challenge that idea. Seeing that many women who pushed the womens rights were good God fearing women. Those same women pushed for prohibition believe they had the rights to challenge men for the good of the family. I believe the idea of popular culture challenging religion as a great topic. Why not take a look at the Caste systems of Hinduism and the challenge on that with modern day?
