Hey guys I am pondering over wither or not i should get a 18" Longnose gar. My current stock is 1-TSN 18" 2-Fl gar 18" & 10". My tank is 80*24*36. I have read Longnose are a bit more skittish than Fl. So this is my question, Is my tank to narrow for the Longnose? Making him more susceptible to broken nose, back, etc. Are they known to be aggressive? So far I have a very peaceful tank and i don't want to disturb the peace in it. Can any of you Longnose keepers tell me your experience with them?

i would definately skip it. as tempting as a new longnose is, i really dont see an 18" specimen doing well in that tank. especially since it will likely grow even larger than 24"

why not work on getting a new tank first?

It will work for now but you would need to look into getting a wider tank, now only if your tank was 80x36x24, then it would be perfect for your gar.

I haven't found longnose to be more skittish than florida gars but if you keep them with other gar species, you will just have to make sure they get food and keep it. My shortnose like to steal food from my bigger longnose, so I end up feeding the shortnose first then the longnose afterward.

Now as far as aggression goes, they aren't any more aggressive than most of the gars your going to find. I have noticed that they tend to be more flexible than comparable thicker bodied gars.

thanks guys guess i have to wait until i get a wider tank. what about Tropical, Spotted?

Forgot about shortnose hhhmmmm. Good idea.
