I recently lost The Admiral after having had him for a few years. As we know all Mbu puffers are wild caught and are becoming harder to find.Fpr tht reason I want my next one to have the best chance possible. What meds or natural remedies have any of you used to purge them of parasites after you get them in. Also have you found any liquid vitamins to inject into market shrimp or other prey items to aide in the health of these captive creatures???

I don't own a mbu but a good anti parasite med is jungle parasite clear that you can get at walmart. Vitachem is a good vitamin to soak foods that you are feeding him.

Thax puffy kid!!!!

I don't recommend any prophylactic medications or treatments. Just good water quality and a diet and environment conducive to stress-free growth. Pretty much all wild-caught fish harbor parasites and I think we sometimes do more harm than good by throwing a bunch of treatments which may or may not be effective at the fish. A fish can live its whole life and thrive with internal parasites as long as the other aspects of its environment aren't stressors. Also, don't buy a "rescue" fish. Buy the healthiest one there is.

Best of luck with your search.

haha no problem glad to help. Treat for minimum of 10 days and soak for at least 15 minutes, a way to see if your puffer still has ip is the day after you skip a meal for your puffer before you feed look at the tummy. The stomach should be flat and not concaved inward at any point with only a period of 24 hours or so passing between feedings.
