ive had this guy for almost six months now and i was told that he killed his gf after their first spawn. but ive always wanted to be sure but im not willing to vent him.

well afters todays water change he got really aggressive and started rubbing against the corner of the tank and hovering over one spot. he is still doing it after about an hour. i also noticed something sticking out of its belly.... something that looks like a tube.

can someone tell me if its male or female. i have a couple pictures and one video. thanks!!

ive seen this behavior before... in breeding pairs... but he is in there alone so i dont know what to think.

does any have an ideas on why he would be still be rubbing his belly against that corner?

or he just being a weirdo?

thanks doug. it was a behavior i had never seen him exhibit before.

so at least i know now.. 25% water change followed up with some krill = breeding mode

No problem. Glad i can help. I see this behavior when the ground water gets cooler this time of year.

It sounds like he is better off by himself. They are great solo wet pets.

Sent from my fish dungeon via MFK app.

the idea was to keep him alone when i brought him home anyways. i wouldnt think of giving him a tank mate. not only because the tank is too small for a second fish but also because i dont want any fighting going on.
