Do african cichlids like it when there's a lot of water movement? or do they prefer calm waters? I recently installed a wet and dry filter and now i have a more current from the pump and the upper level of the aquarium is more active now. Hope it doesn't stress them out. although my yellow lab likes to go in front of the output end of the pump hose and swim against the current...must be part salmon.

I think that some parts of their lakes have fast moving white water but most of these fish are collected in the vicinity of the shoreline where they have the rock rubble as territory.A good ammount of them are found at low depths also where there isnt much raging water.

Mine seem to love the water flow they go right up to the current and just swim against it sometimes...

thats what my yellow lab does :D and the others are learning to do it too. I guess it's not bad.

thanks to both of you for the info ..

Yeah the lake is huge in contrast to the Ocean and has a strong current to it like a river system has, also the lake has the wave action going on as well and i believe the lunar pull has a little to do with it, so a little current should be ok just not a jacuzzi in your setup..

I got a bubble curtain for my mbuna setup. My fish are always swimming against it (downward) and when they get to the bottom, they ride the current back up and do it all over again and again. Gives them good excercise!

Mine also love to play in a powerhead. I've also found that a carefully aimed powerhead can help decrease some aggression either by letter them play and exert more energy, or creating a bit of a bubble burst to break some line of sight. I aim mine slightly downward into one of my major rock complexes.
