Anyone have an idea what may have happened? I have 3 clown loaches. Just noticed them picking at the ray. Other then that I do have two 300w uncovered heater one each corner of the tank

Whats the best plan of treatment?

You can't have an exposed heater in the tank. To be honest it looks pretty bad and I hope your ray survives. You gotta keep doing 30-40% water changes everyday for a few weeks. Dont add any kind of chemicals to the water. Hopefully it will heal on it's own.

looks like heater burn- clean water and salt... the clown loaches will pic at the wound i would move them. Also that ray looks quite skinny is he new?

Hes in a 6x2x2 tank with a few other tankmates.

Would it be wise to move him to a 40b to himself until he heals up? That way waterchanges are easier. Hes about a 6 inch disk

Stingray didnt make it. Man lesson learned
Really sorry to hear that man. Rays are tricky, and many of us have lost our first ray unfortunately. Here's some lessons I've learned that have helped me become a successful ray keeper:
1) best to buy rays from a reputable breeder/dealer until you've gained some experience. Trying to rescue or nurse an unhealthy ray back is not for the beginner
2) no exposed heaters
3) no tank mates. Too many problems!
4) be sure that your filters are fully cycled to handle the HUGE bioload a ray puts on a system, rays produce 10 times the ammonia that a normal fish the same size produce. A small ammonia spike is detrimental to a rays health.
5) don't give up if you lose your first ray. It's unfortunate...it really really sucks, but learn from it and try again when your ready. Ray keeping is a rewarding, life changing experience, and well worth the trouble. In my opinion rays are the ultimate fish!
