hey guys i havce some q's......i just got a d40 what settings do yuo use to take pics......this is my first dslr so if you could help out that would be great thanks.....also any tips or tricks would be great..thanks mfk
 
shoot maual mode, play around with shutter speed and aperture till you get results you like, if you have any extra doe, invest in a overhead flash for fish pics.
 
any certain kind or brand of overhead flash?

try to stick with the current nikon models they are optimized for DSLR's, sb-600 would be best for most needs.

shutter usally around 1/30 s, aperture ranges from f/9-f/13 for fish pics, but it depends of how much light you shoot with.
 
okay any cheaper overhead flashes? or iss that one pretty cheap?

$150-180, but it's the option i'd go with in your situation. i don't have any experience with third party flashes.
