Howdy,
My royal has been retreating happily into the plants, but I thought I'd provide a bit more of a shelter. It's just over one foot in size now.
I went to Lowe's and got a 4'' drainage pipe.
I cut a piece off that was two feet long and warmed it up on my gas grill. I didn't want a round pipe, and was able to push it into an oval cross-section once it was warm. A knife is flat, and I figured it gives the fish a bit more height.
Then I saved the Java Fern from my other tanks, that I normally throw into my compost, and tied it to the front and the top of the pipe. I left the back bare because it'll rest on the back of the tank.
Here's the pipe in my tank. Now my knife has to move in.
And the fish
So long
