I have a project I’m currently working on and I realized I made a mistake in my plans, I was going to use 4’ x 8’ plywood cut down to 7’ but I just realized I’m going to need a width of 5’ instead. I can’t seem to find them on the website of home depot or lowes so I don’t think they’ll have them in store. Are 5’ x 8’ pieces of plywood rare? I know they’re made since I did find them on one site but to have a single piece shipped to me would add $200 and they dont have a store in my state that it could be shipped to.

Should I continue trying to find a 5’ x 8’ piece or should I just go another route? If they make pieces larger than 5’ x 8’ then I could just cut off the extra. Would it be smart/reasonable/doable to frankenstein 2 pieces together, like a 4’ x 8’ and a 1’ x 8’?

Sorry if what I’m saying is weird or doesn’t make sense, this is my first diy project.

What are you making? '4×'8 is the standard size sold at Home Depot and Lowe's. Maybe you could special order larger sheet size tbh I don't know.

Yeah I had a piece of wood cut in half so I had two 1’ x 4’ pieces and it ended up with one being 11.5 and the other 12.5 -_-. Not happy at all with that so I’ve decided to get my own tools so I can be independent and do stuff when I need to.

Yes you could have the extra section cut to size and add. I suggest having it cut with a mitre saw not cut rough like Home Depot does.
Wait so you’re talking about frankensteining two pieces together?

If both sections of plywood are square and cut evenly no one could tell it was 2 sections.

I’m planning to build shelves onto it and have one of them holding a planter box with a hole drilled in each side. One side will have a pump pulling water into it and the other hole will return the water into the tank, you can think of it as a diy filter if you want. It won’t be “heavy” but it will have maybe 3-5 gallons of water resting on that shelf. Would that be a problem?

I don't see any issue with it. Do you plan on coating the wood with a waterproofing stain or sealer?
