Now as far as I'm aware most species are brackish water, but I do believe there is a freshwater species (Brachygobius xanthomelas). So I was wondering if these B. sp Ozelot are also capable of living in freshwater?

The thing is they are a primarily brackish genus so unless they are in isolated freshwater it's hard to tell. Are they available to you?

So I did end up messaging them and they said they can be kept in freshwater.
This is the message:
"There is not too much information available on this species. Most info available suggests they may be same species B. xanthomelas, in which case yes they can do regular freshwater. We are currently keeping them in pure fresh and have had no issues for the last few months. Hope that helps!"
So I will have to try myself once things I get running.

Do you have or are planning a separate tank for them just in case? I only ask because plenty of brackish fish may do well in freshwater for a period of time and then suddenly turn for the worse. Since they're such a manageable size a ten I imagine would be fine. I'd also inquire the specifics of the water conditions they're currently being kept in as brackish fish like hard water and some of their being okay in the freshwater they're currently kept in maybe due to the water conditions of their tap since some areas have higher levels of calcium, etc. Do they know the catch location by chance?

I'm sorry if I'm all over the place just going through the motions I went through when I was considering picking up some Colomesus psittacus from Wes. I hate losing fish and tend to over think things sometimes.

Sounds interesting. Maybe some buffers would be in order if what koltsixx koltsixx has said is right

Yeah I probably should get an extra tank just in case, but I don't blame you for your inquiries because you got some legitimate questions. Oh and don't worry about the overthinking, as I tend to do it a lot myself.
