just wondering..my mom has a small copper pot that would look perfect in my tank, but is it safe?:uhoh:

(its not corroded..but a little dirty due to being outside)

no-it wont be safe to put copper in the water..

ok..i was just wondering because i just got my 2 oscars today and they are laying on the bottom of the tank together not moving only if i go to play with them or try to pet them. what should i do to fix this? i have a few plants (fake) and some large river stones. do i need driftwood or some kind of cave?

well oscars do sulk when put in a new tank- sometimes it can last for a few days lol.. make sure you have some plants (fake are better than live with oscars) in there-a floating long one would be cool, and some rock work like you said is great. i would put some driftwood in there-a few large chunks..

is the tank newly setup? if so, check your water parameters and make sure you have no ammonia, no nitrItes, and that your NitrAtes are 40 ppm or less- (i keep mine below 40-some do, some dont lol)

no do a 50 % water change then check the ammonia levels again its best to fix problems without chemicals if possible,

so its a new tank? any small amount of ammonia is toxic to a fish..

i dont know what ammonia buddies are lol.. do they soak it up or something? or convert it to nitrItes faster? i would go get some Cycle to add to the tank if its new.. that stuff is great, or use some media from an established tank (sponges, or squeeze the media in your water, sure its messy but that bacteria will seed your media fast).

what exactly IS the ammonia reading? and are you using test strips or a liquid test kit?

Ammonia buddies are worthless IMHO, before I bought my RO unit I tried every chem I could find to remove ammonia. The only one that did anything was amquel +, and it only cut the ammonia in half, but thats leaps anbounds better then anything else. Now I have R/O unit so when I do have a small ammonia out break i use Prime, as its 10x cheaper, and detoxifies the ammonia.
