Will he ever look normal or will he just be covered in scar tissue? I'm debating if I should rescue him.

So once the holes heal they shouldn't be too noticeable?

Depending on the severity the scars (pits) will always be present to some degree.

I had a Green Terror with a pretty bad case of HITH. He healed up, but you could still see it a little. But it was hardly noticeable.
The picture of that Oscar looks worse then my GT did. So I think you'll always see it a little.

OP, your oscar has a very severe case of HITH. I would expect noticeable scarring if you are able to recover that fish. How is the treatment going?

He's not mine. I saw this guy at a Petco. I'll go back there later and see if they can adjust his price. There's no way I'm paying full price for him.

I see, I missed the part about you rescuing him, sorry. Have you had any experience treating HITH? Ive treated several times but after several years and several outbreaks I was ultimately unable to save my oscar. I did learn a lot and have learned much more since so if you are looking for pointers I'll share what I know

Yes please share. I'd like to know what I'm up against before I even try rescuing him.
