Or are my suspicions correct and my Midavil has opened a can a whupass on my gold saum?

I will try and get a pic of the wound. They get along for the most part although lately my saum has actually been challenging the Midavil who happens to be a lot bigger.

Anyone have a fish swim fast into a rock or something and get a bite like wound? (lol)

It is very easy for fish to damage themselves on objects in the tank. That's why most try to have objects with no sharp edges. This does not mean it cant be from your Midevil.Keep an eye on them and remove any sharp or dangerous looking objects.

i second that but pics might help

I've had fish injure themselves on rocks when being chased by more dominant fish, happens somewhat often

Yes as of now my Midas has a big wound on his nuchal hump because he keeps wacking the tops of the tank open. Just little plastic doors but it scares the crap out of me every single time because it's just a loud bang. He won't stop doing it. His cut isn't healing to fast because he keeps doing it and opening it up again. It's getting me mad because I want it to go away. It's just a blotch of white (tissue) on his head. I am adding melafix to help heal it up quick.

my x large red belly pacu was tring to commit fish-a-cide or hitting his head on the top of the tank lid, to solve the proublem I took some of the water out of the tank to make it harder for him to bonk his head. He stopped because he had to come clear out of the water to hit the top and that was just to much work. used melafix he healed up and I gradually put water back in to fill line. Hope this helps some, maybe??

my oscar had a bad cut on his head a couple of different times, he can be heard jumping out of the water pretty often, since his injuries, i have moved him into a larger tank with sand and 1 piece of slate only, he no longer injurs himself, but he still jumps at the top every once in a while, i would not recommend any decorations in a tank for oscars, and it also depends on how crazy your fish are.
