Can a group of convicts live together?

You can have multiple pairs if tank is 55+ gallons.

I agree, in a tank that is large enough. I kept a group of a. coatepeque (now moved back to nigrofaciatus) in a 55 for years. There were two pairs and 3 or 4 others. Each pair claimed a side of the tank and others stayed in the middle.

Yah id do 2 pairs of fish if u have a 55.

Cons can definitely fight above their weight class. This pair kept the obviously bigger fish to a 1/4 of a 55gal tank till I got the divider View attachment 1374162

Poor Toni.

I have a pair that killed a couple of larger fish. Couldn't figure out who was responsible at first because it didn't occur to me that those dinky little guys were capable of it. Then I caught them in the act, teaming up in an attempt to gut a tankmate from below. They were given their own honeymoon suite. The murdered fish are avenged every time I feed convict fry to our resident predators.

I have two convicts that I believe are either dwarfs or runts, but they are only 3 to 3.5" and over 18 mos old. I rescued them in a community tank, and recently QTd them to a 20g.

They have never been in a good breeding situation before, so we will see what happens.

Anyhow the previous owner homed them with a variety of 7 African cichlids and 4 catfish, and they lived that way for well over a year. There was lots of chasing and some nipping, in both directions. Both tanks are more peaceful since the separation.

Convicts are some of the craziest when protecting eggs or fry. I had a pair go up against a 10 inch Midas and they both got their faces tore off and eggs eaten but the pair lived and got a A for effort
