Hey all, I got a 180 a couple of weeks ago and always wanted to get some rays. Some Motoro pups would be great. Can I get a pair together though? Are there such thing as pairs in rays or do they just do their thing and hate each other afterwards.

Also if I couldn't get a pair, would a female or male do better with other fish?

I would basically either want a pair with some fast dithers (smaller cichlids) or 1 ray with some nice bigger fish. Totally understand that I will need an upgrade in the future. This is just what was available, and hey it's better than a 125 at least! Did some basic research and just wanted to confirm this before I get into any indepth details.

Thanks, guys.

Rays get along well with other rays in general especially when young so a pair is fine just get 2 females or a female and a male. They also tend to eat fish tank mates so choose wisely.

Ray's are very social with each other but you may want to keep to a same sex pair if you are plan on buying young rays to grow out. Having a male female pair can be have it down side as the male matures he will get agressive towards the female in an attemp to mate and depending on different situations the male can cause a lot of damage even stressing the female to the point of not eating during this time. I had one male unable to figure it out for such a long time or the female wasn't mature herself, that he had taken very large chunks out of her disc and has ruined her pattern forever.

Thanks guys. I think I'll try two females.

If you get a pair of motoro male female chances are the male will beat the female up at breeding time and you may need to separate them

If you get to males they will probably fight when they both become mature

If you get 2 females a 180 will be to small for them

You will be best of getting a pair of true hystrix as they are less aggressive when it comes to breeding and stay much smaller than motoro

Post pics before buying as a lot of sellers don't know what hystrix are
