can a rtc live with gill curl?

i have just picked up a baby rtc today that has gill curl on one gill
what i want to know is can the fish live with this without it affecting him or will i have to operate?
it looks to be fairly advanced and from what ive read this means massage wont work but to be honest if he can live happily with this ill probably leave it alone.
any advice would be great thanks.

he'll be fine. if you can get good water quality and keep it that way he may outgrow it.
