I have (amongst other things) three synodontis multipunctatus - one is 4 inches with nice even spots, and the other two are 2 inches who's back ends are not nearly as evenly spotted as their fronts.

Do syno's such as these grow into their spots, getting a more uniform distribution as they age?

The two smaller ones you have could possibly be s. petricola or lucipinnis (which they can be confused with), as with them they have many smaller spots on their heads, but in the midbody they start to get large and spread farther apart. If you post a picture we could deffinately tell. If your 100% sure they are multipunctatus, then they are probably a different varient from a different part of the lake as the other. I think the pattern stays pretty much the same as they grow though.

I'm pretty sure they're multipunchies as the leading edge of their dorsal fin in black, not white - planet catfish sez that the juvies can be like that, so I guess I will find out in time :)
