not if you have any above tank basking spot
keeping turtles and fish together can be done successfully in rare cases, it all depends on the individual turtle/fish

my roommate has an aquatic turtle of some kind, and occasionally we will put it in my 125 gallon with my central/south americans to let it swim around. As far as how they get along, they ignore each other. The turtle swims around for a minute and then goes to the top of a piece of driftwood that sticks out of the water and just sits there. I wouldn't ever keep these together full time though, who knows what would happen.

i ahve seen plenty of pics of turtles with SA cichlids

i'm thinking of putting a baby turtle in. i may give it a shot unless any of you have heard of any attack issues. i'm just worried if the turtle gets big it may become more aggressive towards my south americans.

Sorry, these were taken with a 3 MP phone camera. As you can see, i have Cichlids with 3 red eared slider turtles. As long as the turtles are raised with the fish, it will be OK. Also, the fish may be aggressive to a very small baby turtle so get the biggest baby turtle you can get :naughty:. You will need a basking area for the turtles but the if the water level is high like mines, then find a way to keep the turtles from crawling out like mine did and fell 4 feet but nothing happened to it (stupid turtle :screwy:). I used tape :D to keep them from crawling out while on their basking area, and its working great. And when the turtles grow, they won't become aggressive to the fish if they were raised with them.

Turtles eat fish. Turtles are also very messy. If you prefer a turtle over fish go for it. If you like your fish don't.

You would be better off building the tank to suit the turtles needs and keeping a group of schooling fish that you don't care if it eats. They would more or less be feeder fish for the turtle.

i have a chinese soft shell turtle in my 125g with sa cichlids and they get along fine but my turtle is a baby so can do no damage also i have peaceful cichlids eg severum so they do not bother ther turtle anything like an oscar or jack dempsey will harass the tutrtle until the turtle gets stresssed and will eventually die i had to get rid of my oscar becasue it attacked my turtle even though my oscar is only 4 inches and the turtle is 3 inches i would say go for it aslong as you have peacefull sa cichlids that are small and a basking area for the turt.
