Hey Everyone, I'm thinking about customizing a sump for my 150 gallon tank, I know bigger is always better. I have the space in my stand to do a huge sump in my opinion. Stand space is 47 x 23 x 28 tall and the back of the stand is nearly completely open with a 39x 23 opening. So I was thinking of so far a possible 45x20x20 sump or can make the sump little bit more wider and taller if need be. How I was wondering of basically just having a 4-5 drawer trickle filter on the left side of the sump, baffles than a big wide open isolation tank/seperate tank than some more baffles and return pump. So basically filling the trickle filter with mechanical filtration pads (2 compartments) than the next compartment filled with chemical media like carbon than the last one or two would be filled with bio media like pond matrix, scrubbies or k1 moving bed filter or a combination of those three. So basically would that trickle filter be good enough which would allow a wide open Refuge area or the trickle filter won't be enough and has to be supplemented with other compartments of filtration that would make the refuge area smaller? Sorry guys I know its a lot of info but don't want the sump project to start if the wet/dry trickle filter won't be enough lol and I posted here since rays have heavy bioload if you guys think it would work along with water changes than I think Im set.

I ran a 50g wet/dry on a 225 for about a year as the sole filter with rays. It went through filter socks, then into the wet/dry portion then into where the pump was located which was loaded with ceramic rings that I had leftover from other applications.

I had between 1 and 3 sub adult rays in there. I used only bio and the socks for mech, no chem. No issues with clarity or keeping up with the bio load.

I have exact same set up but a 90g on a 400g instead of the 50g and pot scrubbies... Works like a charm.

Thanks guys appreciate it! Awesome I already order the drawers and stuff once I get the measurements will pull the trigger on the sump to be made and will hopefully have this tank up and running soon!
