I have a 75G with Tahitian Moon sand and my African Cichlids move it around. They dig big pits constantly.
However, if I had to do it over again, I should have used the larger grain Torpedo Beach sand that I have in my other tank. That sand is rounder (no sharp edges). My cichlids sift through it and it shots out their gills. I don't see the cichlids in the Tahitian Moon sand tank silfing the sand; they just move it about with their mouths and spit it out. Maybe the edges are too sharp to sift it through the gills.
I can easily clean the Torpedo Beach sand by plunging my gravel vac deep into it and sucking out the crud. I can't do that with the TM sand. The Tahitian Moon sand is so fine it easily gets stirred up. It has already claimed one HOB filter and jammed up my water change pump.
