having an algae problem light green tint to the water ordered a uv sterilizer but will not get it for a few days all other water perameters normal will the cloudy water hurt them

Most fish are unaffected by Algal blooms. Algae can be beneficial, as it creates Oxygen, but if the algae die it creates a huge bioload of decaying matter.

What Ewurm said is correct.

However, in a properly mainted tank, this isn't the problem becuase the bloom occurs and we do water changes to fix it. In a natural system, such as a poorly flushed inland bay, the algae blooms, and then at night respirates and uses up a lot of O2 and sometimes dies creating more problems. In a tank with water changes and filtration/surface aggitation, this won't happen.

FYI, UV sterilizers increase the bioload of the tank, so water quality is degraded quickly. It may save you from an algae bloom or a bacteria outbreak, but bump up your water change regimin.

It can when the lights turn off.
Oxygen deprivation can become a serious problem once the lights go out if the algae bloom is large enough and surfice agitation isn't adequate.
Oh, and the PH can crash as the CO2 level rises.

nope.......i dont belive it will.a cheap way to get rid of it would be to get a airstone or powerhead.the bubble circulates the water by bringing water from the bottom to the top getting rid of the algae bloom. My powerhead worked for a lil while but my airstone worked better.good luck:headbang2

You'll be ok with just water changes till the UV shows up, lighten feeding, don't worry about the rest and then work the plan.

sorry LC but a bubble wand isn't going to clear up an algae bloom.

Just keep the water parameters under control with regular water changes and everything will be fine. Even with the UV in, you are still going to have to do regular water changes.
