I think i have seen this set up...but aren't both of these fish really aggressive...i was wondering ....if they could go together..how big would the tank have to be..and what else ...if anything...could go with them in the realm of south american fish (is the clown knife from south america???or am i wrong on that..is the royal knife from asia??)

Depends on the personality of the fish. There has been some overly aggressive Oscars and Clown Knives, but they can get along, if they aren't too aggressive.

They aren't especially aggressive. It should be fine if your tank is big enough.

I believe the knife fish are from asia and some from africa, but im not a knife expert by anymeans so confirm that elswhere to be sure. I believe they will get along fine together, i have seen many people keep them together. Both fish get very large as adults (both common over 12 inches as adults) so a very large tank is required. I would have a six foot tank to keep those fish, especially together with other very large cichlids. You could get by with a 75 gallon tank for a while but would eventually need to upgrade to a larger six foot tank once they reach adult size.

I have kept several oscars with my clown knife with no problems whatsoever

I kept an oscar and a clown knife together in a 200 with no problems. As long as you have a few caves for the clown knife to hide when the lights are on it would be fine. I enjoyed having them together with my silver arrowana and a school of 12 - 18 shiners for food for the clown knife. Rocks, driftwood, some large plants (swords), big fish and little fish made the set up look awesome.

oops, you double posted and i put my response into the other thread. But yes they can go together. They will get quite big so you will want a six foot tank once they reach adult size, till then they can grow out faily comfortable in a 75 gallon tank. The bigger the tank the better they should get along and more successful it will be. I believe the knife fish are from asia and some from africa but im not a knife fish expert. I know there is a section here at MFK for knife fish, you could post this thread there and ask advice from people currently keeping them on how well they get along with O's. I know i have seen many pics of tanks housing Oscars and knifes ...

If the tank is big enough I don't see any problems.
