Here is a pic of my 4" Vieja Coatzacoalcos. I am really having trouble finding any definitive information on sexing these and was wondering if any one would be able to help?

Female is my guess as well. Not sure about the nuchal humps - I have two nearly 18 month old males with no sign of nuchal humps.

Do you have any other pics of this fish? I'm questioning the Coatzacoalcos ID. From the ones I've kept & pics i've seen online, the black lateral line should run the length of the body to the eye of the fish.

I get the impression that it isn't pure and most likely a hybrid which really dissapoints me because I have gone to the effort to find the best specimens I can for all my tanks. It was Aquarium industries which let me down which is one of the major wholesalers in Australia. Do you think this makes it harder to sex?

I have heard that they are very similar to zonatus and often compared to one another but is aggression something they both have in common also?

I can't comment on zonatus aggression b/c I've yet to keep them. Overwhelming consensus pegs them as the most aggressive vieja along with black belts.

My coatzacoalcos are the most aggressive out of the vieja that I keep, but its more of a territorial aggression vs. an outright murderous aggression. Just a torn fin or missing scale every now & then.
