I have a couple of Carpinte "Vontehillos" that are just over the 4" mark and they looked identical until a couple days ago when I threw one into my 240 and he/she put on breeding dress and is following one of my kamfas around. I suspect the kamfa to be female and the male Carpinte is in breeding dress...let me know what you guys think.

The second third and fourth have a blue beard so they have Jack Dempsey in them ;)

First and last look female but I could be wrong.

Hahaha yeah I'm sure they do Chris--thanks! Lol

Thanks for the input everybody. What exactly are the differences between male and female in Carpintis? Like I had said above these 2 looked identical before the one went into breeding dress. I had heard that females have a black spot on their dorsal and I see no black spots and I know that both male and female go into a "bearded" breeding dress.

I would say 1 and 4 are female, but wait to see which one lays eggs to know for sure.... But they def do NOT have Jack Dempsey in them. They are probably the Mexican Princess version or possibly the Escondido version, or a cross between the two.
