Can anyone help identify this fish?

Picked this little guy up at petsmart labeled as a firemouth, but he doesn't look like one to me. Anyone know what kind it is? I don't even know if its American or what.

That is certainly no firemouth,not a meeki anyhow.It looks like some species of jewel cichlid (Hemichromis)which is an African cichlid but it does not come from high ph waters.

Ok thanks. Most jewel cichlids seem red? maybe this is a different kind of jewel?

No they sometimes color up later on how the hell do you post on this thing I need to post about these fish i need to get rid of

Not all jewels will give you that super bright red. They were bred to be that way, like guppies or goldfish. Also there are several species of Hemachromis, and some of them rarely appear in the hobby. Here's a link.
