My flowerhorn has recently had swim bladder problems.
Im not sure if its because of a parasite HIH or her eggs but it happened once, we fed her a pea, and she recovered.
We fed her original food next couple days and medicated API general cure and after day 2 she started floating on side at top the tank again.
Its beenn4 days now and she is not eating anything.
I am extremely sad and nervous for her.
I've seen different medications I can try and also watched many videos - some showing the fish with swim bladder problems for numerous weeks without eating.

Can anyone please advise me in how to try and help my fish? She has been on her side but when agitated can swim freely but it does not last long at all. I can use any tips, advice, or suggestions please please. I love this fish.

I tried adding some salt.

I also add stress coforconstantly for her exposed skin but its started to leave marks from being exposed to air for so long.

The water conditions and pH are pristine and where they should be.

I want to force feed her a pea but I don't know how.

What can I do?

Should I try tetracycline or a metrodiazole based medication? Does anyone know a good one to buy?

It could be an internal issue. Since these fish are bred poorly. See lots of sick flowerhorns. I’d try adding some Epsom salt 3 tbsp per 5g and kanamycin. If still not better or continues to have swim bladder issues then it’s likely an internal. I’d euthanize the fish. That’s just IMO. Good luck!

Would go with kanamycin, maracyn2, furan 2, triple sulfa or neomycin. In that order. If none can be found then consider erythromycin.

I have furan 2 will stop at lfs to look for the other you listed before that.
Thanks.

So phenomenonally she decided to eat today and went after 2 helpings of peas. One around noon right before I was going to dose furan 2 but then decided against it.
I fed again at night and she at another healthy amount of peas.
What should my plan of action be next? Should I order that first medicine recommended because it is the best? When should I dose? Or should I dose the furan 2 immediately?
She still is floating on side not much improvement other than in her appetite.
Should I wait it out before dosing meds?

Thanks for the help!!

I’d try the kanamycin and start treating right away.

Thank you. I ordered this weekend kanaplex and it arrives tomorrow.
Ill look locally for it today.
Pray for her please.

Update!!!
After the second round of kanaplex she has miraculously recovered!!!

I dosed kana. Waited 2 days as instructed....she has been asking for food even though constantly on her side...after day 4 I dosed and then that next morning fed her mashed gree n peas and later she was swimming like normal.
I've noticed her staying at the top.
Now my next course of action im not sure but day 6 came and I decided to medicate for the 3rd and final time.

Now I'm not entirely sure what course of action to take I do not want this all to happen all over again.

For now it will be a pea diet until I can decide what to do but I was thinking of grinding her standard pellets but im nervous thats what caused this maybe because they float but it seems like this was an internal problem possibly parasites.

Another thing is I swear she hasn't pooped but its hard to be 100% because she hasn't been fed a lot and I've only given her a few mashed peas every few days.

Anyone insight or suggestion please!!!

I need a new food suggestion .

I was feeding sumo pellets before all this happened.

Thanks for the help !

Hey I don't have suggestions, my fish suffered from Hexamatia and it was super distressing, I can't imagine it for you. My guy didn't poop until a few hours to 2 days later, and that's when the frown on my face switched. I wish the best of luck for her, she is definitely beautiful. You got this dude! Flowerhorns are super unpredictable illness-wise but I guess that's just part of the fish-keeping for these guys. How is she now?
