Today i went to a fish shop . They said about Leopoldi & henlei . How to differentiate these 2 ? Is it difficult to find ? How much should be a good deal to own these 2 ? Finally , thank you to web owner and all friends in this home . As i got so many useful information from here to take care of my little rays .

Don't the Henleii have more of an orange/yellow tint to the polka-dots? Also has something to do with coloration on the belly?

I got a peice of info from a Taiwan aquarist: A Leo's tail is stubby like an oar and has 3 or 4 rows of spikes while a Henlei's tail is slender in comparison and has much less spikes.

there is orange in the dots as leo will be more white.... not too sure about the tail markings though....

one big thing with a Henlei is the dots will wrap around the disk and go alittle bit onto the bottom of the ray.

Exactly, thinner tail and more yellow spots on henleii and there should be spots around the disc edge on the underbelly of the henleii

tails slightly diff and spots on bottom side of disc
leo's are usually more dark black

Leos have what I call a "paddle" or sail at the end of their tail...it is an elevated flap of tissue.... henlei have a longer, pointed tail like most rays. Usually but not always, henlei have spots to the edge of the disc, and there are yellow markings on the underside as well... some leos have spots at the edge of the disc, and occasionally a few yellow markings on the underside....natural intergrades may occur...if your LFS has either and the price is good, buy it!
