I have two pengasius sutchi's and they seem to stop being active during the day, they just sit on the bottom of the tank untill i switch the lights off. One of them was startled three days ago and had a mad dash around the tank bumping into everything. He now just lies in the plants, he almost looks dead. I made the mistake of trying to scoop him out yesterday, he flew across the tank smashing into the glass and everything again. What can i do ? Are they poorley??

How long you have had them? If you have just got them, they may need some time to get used to with new tank.
How big are they and how big is the tank? Do they have any tank mates?
When mine was small it was under some wood all day. Now it is too big for wood and hides under some plants. But it wount stay there for whoul day, it comes out often to swim around. I have tank in my livingroom so people are moving next to the tank a lot. Maybe it is just used to have all the time someone close. But sometimes,just sometimes, it gets scared and swimms like blind one. Luckily it havent get hurt a lot.
If they dont have place to hide, maybe you can make something to them?

I have had them for about two months now, they are about 4-5 inches. I have moved them from a 4 ft tank to a 6x2x2 tank in the livingroom about a month ago. They do have tankmates
2 Tinfoil barbs 3 -4 inches
2 moonlight gourami's 5 inches and the other 9 inches
1 golden gourami 3 inches
1 silver shark 4 inches
1 common plec 7 - 8 inches
