He’s really little but he’s grown since he’s come home with me is this a relatively rare(ish) cat fish my local lfs has a bad habit of mislabeling fish

I though it was a juvenile birchardi they had it labeled as an upside down catfish which they all seem to have been s. Erupetus

Not an ID-friendly photo but looks like hybrid #5 to me: https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=2112

It doesn't look like brichardi: https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?task=&species_id=46

Valentiana.
This name is usually associated with hybrid #1 https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?task=&species_id=602 ... but they can call any of these hybrids anything they want, any abracadabra. It won't change a thing. Mr. $ rules and sometimes impedes progress or breaks the healthy established norm.

The base color is a bit dark but the varying spot sizes remind me of a decorus......can't you get any better photos of it?
