Is there anyway to sex these guys once they get a good size{6-7 inches} just by looking at them.. if they are a pair do they hang out together or would two males or two females also hang with each other.. netherwords would some behavior offer some clues to sex? Also what size are they when mature enough to breed..and also what breeding habits do they have? thanks for any info..These pics are all of the same fish.. if i get anywhere with this one then i would post pic of the other..sorry i meant "Satanoperca Leucistica.."

nope and its probably a leucistica

Oh thats right... i don't know why i got him mixed up.. probably reading about too many geo's....... thanks ..

Leucosticta indeed, I think I've told you that before actually ;)

Top 2 appear female, last photo appears male (I hope they're different fish, lol), but honestly I'd only be about 30% sure of that because using dorsal streamers as a sexing method on Geos that aren't full size can have its flaws.

8" I think, they look about 5" to me? :)

your absolutely right ..and your good!!! well i have a ways to go then before i even have to worry about them breeding..one thing do you know if they were a pair would they hang out or would two hang out together anyway no matter what sex?

They're probably sexually mature right now, though I know some Geo's are 'late bloomers' (Heckelii), and I imagine if they were becoming a pair they would be doing the usual hanging around eachother with a little bout of aggression here and there behavior.

They'll probably just plain hang around together even if they aren't a pair, most Geo's will do the same, but it's not 'shoaling' so to speak.

Thanks Japes.. very helpful info that i know that there is 50/50 chance they are a pair and that this is normal behavior..even if their not a pair... you answered what i needed to know and could not find info about where ever i looked ..thanks very much..
