Females usually have a dark botch in the dorsal fin, but this usually only shows it when they are fully mature.
In the video below, you can tell the females, from the subdominant males, by those dark area's.
Dominant males usually stayed in their own territories as opposed to hanging out in the shoals.
A female pauses in front of the camera at about the 30 sec mark, and again a very torn up one at 2.15 or so, there are more, but not quite as obvious.
