Some fish will flare up at their own reflection so try a mirror.

kinda obsessed with snakeheads right now haha gotta progress my maru like a maniac 1st to say. most of channas are aggressive when provoked. You can use a mirror to make him flare (99% he will give the flare that you want), and you can punch the glass to make him bite. Some of my channas will bite when i slightly punch the glass, some will not, this depends on the characteristic of the fishes.
I read and watch people in Vietnam, Indonesia keep the fishes starving for 5-7 days to make them hungry and even more aggressive, so they will bite and flare intensively.
But i dont want to treat my fish that way. That is what we want, not the fishes want.
