Can anyone tell me why is it that Frontosa are so expensive?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
only now are they being bred in the US, so prices are still high, and many are wild caught (really expensive). Also, since they live at great depths, it is harder, more expensive, and you get fewer of them than with most fish.

Bummer, I really would like to get one, I just dont want to drop $50, only to have him get assinated in a rough neighborhood:( How able are frontosa as far as defending themselves? I dont know much about em, temperment similar to other africans?

What are you wanting to put withthem

Ive got a mixed african/american cichlids setup, Id rather not go into specifically what fish I have as there are some judgemental people who post here that would certainly want to put in their unwanted 2 cents, but Ill list em for the sake of the question, and I dont know anything about Frontosa agressiveness or durability?

Green Terror
Firemouth
Red Devil
Jaguire

I do not think it will work. fronts get big... but they grow slow... they would not fair so well with the africans you have let alone the others...

How about if I were to pony up the $ and get a large Front?

Ive actualy kept fronts in with mixed Mbuna and Haps for several years. they spent more time in the rocks than the other fish, but the main agresion they recieved was from each other (so it can be done).

(however) Now, they have a 180 to themselves. of the two conditions, a species tank has allowed them the most fredom for natural behavior / spawning with more activity and displaying. the color is better too.
