I had an outbreak of skin & gill flukes to one of my 75 gallon tank. I moved all the fish to a 40 gallon tank for treatment, that's more than 3 weeks ago. They have been doing fine in the last 4-5 days or so.

I cleaned up the sick tank, emptied it 2 day ago because I didn't know what need to be done. It has been dried for 24 hours. I did the same with the filters and their medias.

My plan is refill the tank, and use one of my "clean" filter from other healthy tank to transfer bio-bacteria to speed up the cycle. Then bring all the fish back. They seem to be stressed out lately due to the crowded condition.

When they were sick, they did not swim around that much. Now they are better, things get a little ugly.

Now my question is: Can anything (bacterias, parasites, eggs or whatever) survive in an empty dried tank for 24 hours?

I don't really think so, but after what happened, it scared the heck out of me. I guess I need some kind of assurance.

Thanks for any advice,

SM
