I have 2 gars which seem to have some sort of disease and don't know what to do? I want to try and add some aquarium salt to the tank to see if anything happens. Can the salt harm any of the fish!? It would be the 300g fish in my sig who would have to cope with the salt. How much should I use? Mix it with water before it goes in the tank right? or do I just ad to the sump? Do you guys think this will work? The gars' disease has pics posted in ancient fish-gars

One tablespoon of salt per gallon. Predisolve the salt and add in over a period of a few hours. Most people also raise the tank temperature to 82 or 84 degrees. Raise temp slowly not all at once. Scaless fish like loaches are hard to treat and may need a smaller salt dose. Good luck.

Add it straight to the tank after you have dissolved it in the water. Ive had not so good effects with salt when its dumped in the sump.

Any1 know is some fish can be harmed by the salt??

Some fish is sensitive to salt. , like cory-cats. But I have used salt many times without any negative result.

salt is actually good for most fish. it helps to prevent diseases and such, and as long as you dont put in too much salt, itl'l be fine

I usually use 1tbsp/5gal to treat sick or injured fish, lots of plants wont take salt if you have any
