can basilisks swim??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im not a basilisk guy but if im not mistaken the running on water thing is mostly used by juviniles but adults are very good swimmers.

Not only basilisks can swim but also they LOVE to swim. Mine alongside my water dragons went to the water daily to do its "daily higene". Its really funny to wach as they use their back legs to clean the head. Its absolutley imperative you allow your lizard to do this. For a small one a small ruber made conteiner will do but for a big one a small aquarium its better. The water must be heated to 26-28 degrees celcius and must be clean every day unless you have a filtracion device. Also dont forget that even to basilisks are moist loving lizards they need a dry place to sleep during the nigth so keep the water area in one extreme of the terrarium and let most moist evaporate before closing the ligths.

They can drown just like any other animal but by all the other means they are excelent swimers and they can hold their breath for quite some minutes. Unless the water is turbulent or cold, they should be able to survive just fine, actualy they like iguanas head for the water when danger comes.
