Yes they can as long as the africans are larger than the birchir's mouth... I just lost a smaller lemon jake to my ornate. However, I love the fact that my ornate keeps my convict population down.

Can bichirs go with african cichlids?

There is a ton of info in the sticky. One place in there does say that the extreme limit range of PH is up to 9.0 and temperatures into the 80's.

here is a few vids of them mixed...bichirs and africans can go with much much more then people think...i was in the process of changing some things around and there was never an issue with these tank setups that according to "common law" should have imploaded instantly...
