can bichirs live in aquariums with gravel???

my tank has gravel and some ppl say thats bad bc they choke on it?? do any of you have bichirs in tanks with gravel ?? thanx would help alot

some individual bichirs are just such pigs that they may mistakenly eat gravel and it can cause problems for them.

For the most part though, they should be fine. Mine all live on gravel from small to large, they don't have problems.

I prefer sand over gravel as gravel can cause problems to bichirs sometimes. Only those unlucky greedy bichirs that actually becomes a victim.

mine all have gravel, no probs as of yet but i think its a risk u take with any fish
 
I had 3 nice 12" endlis in a tank with gravel. After one died, I confirmed by cutting it open tha it had gravel clogging it's gut. Now my remaining 2 endlis have a sand substrate. Expensive and frustrating lesson learned. Take your chances or be safe.
