Hi all, just wondering, if a set of bio rings has been used for 6mths-1yr and it's taken out cos the tank has been cleared, can the rings be rinsed clean and re-used in a new set-up? The bacteria may have all been killed off but they can grow again on the media right? Appreciate your advice :)

Soak in boiling water first. You never know what kind of bacteria are on them now

Absolutely. Also remember if you clean them off in aquarium water you will retain at least 50 percent of the bacteria.

Got it, thanks everyone! Cos budget is kinda tight so may not be able to afford new rings hahaha :) so how often should I rinse the rings in dechlorinated water? Every 6 months? My bio load is kinda heavy with an ornate bichir, oscar, gourami and snakehead in a 4ft tank...

I'd swirl them monthly if your overstocked.
