Ever since seeing pictures of the blackbanded sunfish, I can't quit thinking of having a tank with them and rams. Body structures look a lot alike. Can they be kept together with the different water temps each require? Are there any other concerns with this?

Before you try it you should know that Blackbanded Sunfish are endangered or threatened in some areas.....I would definately not try it unless you have asked some Native experts like Jim, Sandtiger or Noto on this forum or smbass or Centrarchid on the Nanfa forum. I would also check the water parameters before mixing......never just throw fish in a tank to see how they will do, thats irresponsible fishkeeping!

I am confused, you understand that the temperature range of these fish are vastly different and barely overlapping!

That considered you have answered your own question, Absolutely Not!

Rams are on the notorious warm end even for tropical fish water temperatures! Any survival that you achieved in this combo would be a miserable existence for either the banded sunfish, the Ram, or both.

Thanks. Give a shot then you say?

I would not, but if you are inclined to try, I would suggest that you use 74 degrees F as your target tepeerature. This is the lowest temperature for the Ram, and the upper range for the banded sunfish.

You will probably do better with wild cought Bolivian Rams also!
