I asked my wife to feed my grow outs while I was at work and when I stopped by for lunch, I found a dead broko with a fat belly and his mouth open :( He was in perfect condition, just dead, upside down with his mouth open.. My wife doesn't always break up the pellets as small as I would like so I suspect he choked, but I don't even know if that's possible. He was a greedy little guy.. could he have eaten too much? This sucks :(

I've never had a fish "choke". I believe that if the fish doesn't have enough air flow through its gills, then that would be concidered "choking". Plus, fish are able to extract food if needed. But!!!!, a fish can bite off more then they can swallow.

Don't let the ol lady feed anymore. Mine overfed my bass, when i got home from work i thought they were going to explode. That was the first and last time she ever fed any of my fish.

I could show you a pic of my little bass with bellies bigger then there bodies. Never ever lost a fish from eating to much in one feeding!
Pellets soften right up and wouldn't be like if they eat a rock or something and it got stuck.

Not to sound negative or offend you but I would check over your husbandry again because I have a feeling something is not consistent hence your losses.

No they didn't explode. She overfed tilapia. I knew it would be ok but I didn't like how lethargic they were. They just looked miserable but were fine. I'm sure you could over feed a fish to death, especially bass, they are so greedy it wouldn't surprise me a bit if a small bass ate himself to death. But I am no expert and have no first hand experience with this,
