Hello,

I got a 3 inch tiger shovel nose catfish the other day and i put it in with my 8 (each one is about an inch long) red devils and my 5 convicts (each one is about an inch long). They are in a 50 gallon and there are lots of tubes, flower pots and slate caves for the fish to hide in. The tsn has a few tears in his fins. Do you think they are ok together until get i can get them a bigger tank?

I would say not for long. Short term if the cichlids are as big as the ten, they may harass him a lot. Later down the road he will eat the convicts given the opportunity. Also 8 red devils? I'm hoping you have a large tank planned, not to mention for the tsn.

My 240 is too small for my tsn...my tsn is probably around 16" now and he ate my 6" female breidohri. Your tsn will start hunting and when he does say goodbye to the cichlids in there.
Honestly get rid of the tiger sooner than later. And keep a lot of hiding places in the meantime

I am willing to build a big (1000+gallon) tank for the tsn and a different tank for the red devils. I am just using this as a grow out tank. I will soon separate the the tsn from the convicts and red devils. Thanks for the replies.

At the pet store i bought the tsn at they told me they would be fine together and i thought they could. I will put the tsn in its own tank by its self.

I know that. I am setting up separate tanks for them right now.

Around 4" those Red Devils will start to get really sick of each other.

The tsn is in his own tank.
