I have never seen a hybrid pike. Is it possible? Does anyone have one? Which ones can cross? Can a dwarf breed with a normal?

Mods, please do not move to the hybrid section, I need to find out from the pros here ;)

99% possative they can but alot of pike are hard enough to breed as it is hybridizing them in captivity would be very hard but might have happened by pure luck

However alot of saxatilis pikes breed really eazily and probably have been hybridized i wouldn't be supprised if there are hybrids in the pet trade Saxatilis are so hard to ID i would have no idea i i was looking at a hybrid or not if i saw a pike i didn't know

At least in the Rio Cureim, Rio Yi, and Rio Uruguay, there are multiple species of pikes living in the same area.

For example, in Cureim missioneira, minuano, saxatilis, and celodochilus are all together...and don't hybridize.

missioneira and minuano - albeit slightly different ones - are also found in the Rio Yi, further south. Would missioneira from Cureim breed with missioneira from Yi? Who knows but it's much better to keep them with fish from the same collection location.

That is not what this thread is about, and please, do not fire up a pure vs hybrid ethics debate here:)

Just a question, because I have not seen it, and would guess like Oscars, it is not possible.

I highly doubt pike cichlids would hybridise in the wild or in aquaria, even if they could. Their conspecific aggression already makes pair formation and spawning within a species rather difficult, in aquaria at least, and it would certainly be a lot more difficult and unlikely for different species to form pairs and breed.

Not my intention at all...what I was trying to describe is how I experienced situations where multiple species of pikes - each with their own unique behaviors and characteristics - are found (naturally) in the same bodies of water. To my knowledge, the fish don't hybridize naturally...so they likely wouldn't in the aquarium.

There are different collection locations for fish that we call the same species (e.g. "missioneira" from both Yi and Cureim). They're slightly different fish. Are they actually the same species or different species? It probably depends as much on who's classifying them as the fish themselves. Would fish from Yi breed from fish from Cureim? Who knows...

Sorry, I mis-understood.
