My LFS has a 4" or so dat (what they usually have are pretty tiny). Looks like an indo but I'm a total noob re: dats. Anyway he's pretty washed-out looking...is it just a stress thing or would the fish look like that forever? Also he's $45 which seems steep but like I said all I ever see for sale are tiny ones.

Provided with a comfortable low stress environment he should become more stable. Personally I would get it. See if they'll take a lower offer.

Dats should regain there color when they are in a comfortable environment and with good water parameters. Give him some time. Post a pic of him.

I agree, my Dats show their best color in an environment they are comfortable in.

i agree with the above posts...also, sometimes they can change color in seconds when they want to...like my indo becomes 100% stable color when its feeding time or when he's intimadated by my RTGG...other than that he looks a little faded every now and then.

Cool, I might go back and grab him then. I have an empty tank to grow him out in so stress shouldn't be an issue.
