Can distilled water be used instead of RO?

well, since there are no RO filters in the area i live in, is it possible to use distilled water instead of RO to soften the water? ( I've heard that distilled water is the softest water you can find)
My discus laid eggs last week and i was wondering if i can make the water softer by mixing some distilled water in their tank.

yes distilled is very soft and yes it is ok.
