a friend of mine got some plants from the fish store and there was an eel in them! he asked me if i want it and i don't know anything about eels. it is called a tire track eel, and I have two tanks to put it into a 10 gallon with a target puffer (tetraodon cochinchinensis) and some mixed psuedo cichlids and one erotis (who is extremely aggressive.) can anyone give me some information on the eel (food size etc.) and tell me if it is tough enough to live with my cichlids?

is there anything bigger than the 10 gallon where the eel can go? if not, you should take it back to the store

the cichlids are in a 40 gallon tank and the puffer is in a 10 gallon tank.
i was actually thinking of taking my cichlids in and getting some more colorful less aggressive cichlids would he be able to live with maybe some peacocks?

He would get beat up unless he is Full grown and can defend himself. They are mostly peaceful fish so be careful and get him a bigger tank! Like 55 gal. Min. cause they will get big down the road.

Thats so cool, I wish I could get lucky like that when I buy my plastic plants! LOL

i got a 6" peacock eel in my 150 african cichlid tank. I got a crap load of rock for it to hide in but the cichlids still manage to pick at it. grow it up really big before putting it in with cichlids of any kind. i was hoping they would treat it like a loach and ignore it.
