I have a female BGJD and a male EBJD, can either be sterile?

the male tries to impress the female by moving his rear tail faster and faster, but the female just looks, and doesnt seem to impressed and just swims away...

male is about 4-5in, and the female is about 4in

so far i havent seen any aggression from each other, no liplocking, some chasing, no biting either

I was going through exactly what you're experiencing now. In my 40 breeder, I had a male EBJD, 2 female BGJDs and a juvenile JD. At first the EBJD was showing interest and none of the females were. Then I did this: 50% WC, turned up the temp to 80-82, put in a flowerpot dish and fed them conditioning food. Then a few days later…

I guess it’s possible for both fish to be sterile but I think it’s too soon to tell in your situation…

It'll be great if you can take some pictures of your pair! GL!

thanks for the reply mkc, i did the 50% water change, turned up the heat, I wonder if i should put a towel over the tank? The dempseys seem very shy, and when I walk in the room, they run and hide...

My dempseys did the same thing, whenever I got near the tank they’d either hide or if I got too close too quick, they’d just dart all over the place. They would not eat until I left the room. Putting a towel over the tank wouldn’t be a bad idea if there’s constant traffic around the tank. Mine are in the basement so they only see me twice a day when I feed them. Also, do you only have the pair in the tank? I think it’ll help if you add some ditchers, it’ll strengthen their bond.

I have the pair, and i have an albino bristlenose pleco, but hes always hiding under the driftwood.

I had more bottom feeders, but i took them out, didnt want them eating any eggs, or getting bullied by the JD's

thanks for the tips
