I currently have 2 red claw crayfish growing out; when they arrived (shipped) I saw they were both males so put them in my 55gal with a divider. Now I'm wanting to split them up so they have a tank each, so will be moving one into my 40 long.

I added a group of guppies to the 55gal a few weeks ago as I wanted something to add movement to the mid and upper areas of the tank that are unused by a crayfish - and they're cheap, and breed like crazy, so I won't be concerned when the crayfish occasionally grab one for dinner. But I'm not actually really a FAN of guppies, and the 40 long that the second cray will move into is a display tank in my living room, meaning I see it all the time. As such, I'd like a fish I like a bit better to act as dithers and am thinking more along the line of rosy red minnows, danios, or even platies for colour.

I live in a small town and can't seem to find any local fishkeepers who have any of these fish available, so my option is - as much as I dislike it - picking up a group from Petsmart on the weekend. What I'm wondering is if any potential diseases that cheap fish from Petsmart may be carrying - ie: namely parasites - are transmittable to crayfish? I really don't want to have to throw up a QT tank for these fish for a month; if I have to go that route, I'll just wait it out and see if I can find something healthy from a local hobbiest in that time. I'd like to just get the fish and add them straight to the cray tank if I don't have to worry about anything passing to the cray. But I can't seem to find a solid answer online at all.

Anyone know?

I don’t think any of the standard fish diseases would, maybe there are some parasites that affect both but none that I know of.

Okay that's what I thought as well, but just seems to be a serious lack of info when I do a search online lol. Thanks!
