Hey all,

I have a Polypterus Ornatus that has evident hemorrhaging on his body. The water problems have been corrected and he's still alive but weak. Not laying on his side or anything. Is it possible that the hemorrhaging can stop and go away? If so, can he survive?

I guess the real question is if it is possible for a fish to survive after hemorrhaging. I don't expect ya'll to conjecture about my specific situation/fish without knowing all the details.

So, can a fish survive after it has hemorrhaged?

Thanks!

It can. What is the temperature currently? What treatments are you currently using?

The water is 79F. It wasn't just the water condition (high nitrates and a slight ammonia spike) but we believe the problem was mainly a parasite that made him weak (it killed 8 fish within 24 hours). We did a 30% water change and added Copper Safe for the parasite. The nitrates and ammonia lowered, but the problem persisted. So the next day (per a very trustworthy source) we did a 50% water change, added aquarium salt and lots of oxygenation (air stones) and a filter from another tank that was full of good bacteria. The water has fully been corrected since last night and the remaining fish are recovering.

Unfortunately, the Polypterus died last night. We are very sad about the loss.

Any suggestions for next time? (Of course, I hope it never happens again)

Thanks!
